I saw a demonstration on the NHK TV program “Asaichi” of how to boil somen noodles in a microwave, and I wanted to try it, so I bought this. After hesitating over whether to get the 21 cm or the 18 cm, I decided on the 18 cm, and it was just the right size for boiling two packages of somen noodles at a time in my single-function microwave, which is a little on the large side (18 L). I can boil somen noodles in the hot summer kitchen without using a flame, and there is no need to worry about the 700 ml of water (I boil the water in an electric kettle, add the somen noodles and a tablespoon of vinegar, and heat it up. The heating conditions are 600W for 2 minutes longer than the boiling time written on the somen packet, so there's no risk of it boiling over, which is very helpful. However, to boil leafy vegetables in the microwave, you'll probably need a slightly larger bowl, so I'm planning to buy one soon.

I wanted a heat-resistant bowl that I could use in the microwave and then serve straight from the table, so I'm satisfied with this product.
